Madrid has live music every day of the week. You can find great venues from the reformed established jazz bars to the new  jam sessions basements! Whatever you’re looking for, Madrid has it all. Here’s a list of my favourite places…

Cafe Berlin – Cocktails & Live Music C/ Jacometrezo 4, 28013

It’s been open for 40 years, but last year was given a new look. Cafe Berlin has Live Music performances to the highest standards every night, starting around 22:30. It became famous for it’s Jazz, but is now open to other genres such as Soul, R’n’B, Live Flamenco and much more. They are open until 05:30am so expect animated DJ shows from 1am onwards. The owners, -who also own the Jose Alfredo Bar- provide a wide range of cocktails from the great classics to innovative mixes. Cafe Berlin offers the ultimate live music experience in Madrid until the early hours. Located right next to Plaza Callao, it is very easy to reach if you want to hang out in central Madrid.

La Boca de Lobo – Wednesday Night Jam – C/ Echegaray 11, 28014

Every Wednesday night you should find yourself in the basement of this great bar. It is small with a big atmosphere.  You can get a beer for €4.50, and there is a couple of bars inside so you won’t be waiting long. The Jam starts at 11pm and the usual attendees are really friendly and inviting should you wish to play.

Barco – Sunday Night Show and Jam Session C/ Barco 34, 28004

€6 entrance with a beer, or €9 with a mixed drink. There is usually a band playing before hand, starting at 11pm. Cosmo Soul has been organising the Jam afterwards which ends around 4am. There is usually a Soul, R’n’B or African theme to the night; however that all depends on who steps up on stage.

Cafe Central – Jazz & Classical Plaza de Angel 10, 28012

Over 30 years and 10,8000 concerts later, Cafe Central continues be one fo the best Jazz clubs in Europe. Concerts start everyday at 21:00 – 23:00 and the bar stays open until 02:30am. They are open from 12 noon and serve delicious food. Located in Plaza de Angel close to Plaza Santa Ana, it is rather sophisticated but the entrance starts around €12.

Las Carboneras – Flamenco in Madrid C/ Conde de Miranda 1, 28005

Dedicated to authentic flamenco, this cosy venue has paintings and sketches, the option to eat, and two live flamenco shows every night. The performances last for 1 hour and usually they have 2 dances, 2 singers, 2 guitarists and 2 guest musicians. Ticket prices start at €28 including a drink and a reservation is recommended to ensure a place. It’s located close to Plaza Mayor in an old establishment know as a “Cafe Cantantes”.
